Program Information

Mount View Youth Services Center (MVYSC) is a secure, co-ed multi-purpose institution operated by the Colorado Department of Human Services, Division of Youth
Corrections (DYC.) MVYSC is located in unincorporated Southeastern Jefferson County And provides detention services for the First And Fifth Judicial Districts, Regional
Diagnostic/Assessment for the First, Second, Fifth And Eighteenth Judicial Districts And a 50 bed Treatment Program for males age 12-21. The above Judicial Districts
encompass 11 Counties: Gilpin, Jefferson, Denver, Clear Creek, Eagle, Lake, Summit, Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert And Lincoln.

MVYSC is home to the Central Region Assessment team. The Assessment team utilizes Evidenced Based Assessment tools including the Colorado Juvenile Risk
Assessment (CJRA) during the Assessment process. The assessment results are utilized to develop recommendations to address risk factors that contributed to a
youth’s criminal behaviors with the overall goal of reducing recidivism. Two Master level Clinicians also provide individual And group counseling to all youth going
through Assessment or who are waiting for placement.

Educational Services are available to all youth in our care via one of two programs. Jefferson County Public Schools, the local school district, has an on-site program that
serves the detention population. Teachers employed by DYC provide educational services to the committed youth. Both school programs provide Special Education
services to those who require them. Both Jefferson County And DYC offer Social Studies, Math, Language Arts, Science, Art, Transition And Recreation. Youth are able to
work toward And obtain their GED or diploma And have the ability to be involved in vocational programs such as food service, house keeping And grounds keeping.

The Detention population receives clinical services from Jefferson Center for Mental Health (JCMH) staff. JCMH Clinicians provide individual And group counseling as
well as 24 hour support in case of crisis situations.

DYC contracts with Behavioral Health Concepts (BHC), which provides clinical services to the youth in the 50-bed Treatment Program. Youth entering the program are
assigned a Clinician that specializes in the areas of severe mental health issues, substance use/abuse and/or with Juveniles Who Have Committed Sexual Offenses
(JWHCSO). An individualized treatment plan is developed that will help guide each youth during their stay. Each youth And his Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) will meet
monthly to review And modify the treatment plan which identifies goals, objectives And interventions. Each youth will receive individual sessions, family sessions And
group therapy centered around services such as: substance abuse, offense specific treatment, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), animal assisted therapy, life skills,
cognitive behavioral therapy, self-esteem, ropes course And transition services to name a few. Multi-family group is offered to the youth And his family once a month.
Once a youth is nearing transition, a Counselor is assigned to help guide this process. Youth in the Treatment Program may have the option to attend classes or obtain
work outside the campus.

Every youth coming into Mount View are given the opportunity to receive weekly religious, medical, dental And Psychiatric services. Youth are also involved in Restorative
Community Justice (RCJ) projects, which allow them to look at, And repair harm that was done to the community.

Mount View And its 22 acres allows youth many opportunities to get outside And participate in the ropes course, Frisbee golf, soccer, kickball, basketball, volleyball And
gardening. Healthy, pro-social activities such as these not only can help facilitate change during a youth’s stay at Mount View, they can provide a positive alternative to
negative choices.
